D-SHINES aims to cultivate a healthy school culture where teachers, students and families are provided with the resources and knowledge needed to adopt lifelong health habits.
DSHINES is a comprehensive program offering students access to school gardens, classroom physical activity, nutrition and gardening lessons, quality physical education, after school clubs and family nights. DSHINES by design cultivates a healthy school culture where teachers, students and families are provided with the resources and knowledge needed to adopt lifelong health habits.
Fifteen schools have participated in the DSHINES program, touching the lives of over 9000 students and families.
DSHINES has created a total of eight gardens across elementary and middle schools in Dearborn and has another 8 in progress to be completed by Spring 2021.
The D-SHINES staff work with the district and the teachers to provide professional development around physical activity, quality physical education, and nutrition education.
